Music Paintings
As a person who is passionate about musical performance, this is an exciting painting subject for me. It is a natural fit for my preferred way of improvising with paint. In art school, I became aware of the long tradition in art history of painting musical performances. Edgar Degas is an artist I greatly admire, especially for the paintings he did of performance. I strive to capture musical essence in paint. Often, the location is the subject that interests me — not just the musicians, but the environment of a theater or nightclub.
